The World of Volvo
Pushing the boundaries
Wood construction visionaries bring
the impossible to life
The World of Volvo is shaping up to be a one-of-a-kind experiential hub and gathering place for the renowned Swedish brands Volvo Cars and Volvo Group in Gothenburg, with a strong emphasis on Scandinavian landscapes, environment, and traditions.
A fundamental conceptual goal was to create a space for gathering. Situated in Gothenburg's event district, the project is expected to be completed by the end of 2023 and opened to visitors in 2024.
The intentional nod to nature in the arched "branches" and the "canopy" reflects the concept of the building, which is based on the idea of a mountain (the landscape and the base of the building) and a tree (the building itself).
WIEHAG is globally recognized as one of the leading pioneers in engineered timber construction. We are constantly pushing the boundaries of sustainable, renewable, carbon-sequestering building materials. With its combination of scale and complexity, the World of Volvo is undoubtedly a project that elegantly showcases what sustainable design with a high aesthetic standard can achieve. The design team, consisting of Henning Larsen and WIEHAG, has created an outstanding building that will undoubtedly inspire forward-thinking planners, architects, investors, and developers to choose wood for construction in the years to come.
