Two
Timber Construction Awards
for WIEHAG
The Upper Austrian Timber Construction Prize was awarded for the tenth time this year and once again showing how diverse and exciting modern construction with timber can be. The HARGASSNER timber car park project won first place in the ‘Commercial Buildings’ category. The Haus der Vereine in Neumarkt am Wallersee also came out on top in the ‘Out of Country’ category.
The timber multi-storey car park
sets new standards
in timber engineering
The jury's conclusion: With this modern timber car park, the client HARGASSNER - together with the architectural firm Dipl.-Ing. Andreas Matulik and the contractor WIEHAG Timber Construction - is setting new architectural and timber engineering standards. The new building has space for over 500 cars.
A particular advantage: the timber car park with its split-level stacking construction generates only a fifth of the sealed area of a conventional car park. The 16 metre long main trusses, which allow column-free parking levels, are particularly space-creating.
The semi-transparent façade was made from untreated larch timber rhombus cladding and fulfils several functional and design tasks: It reliably protects against the effects of weather such as precipitation and direct sunlight, provides targeted shading for the car parks and at the same time allows natural lighting of the interior through a variety of light and shadow effects. Depending on the location and perspective, a dynamic, constantly changing façade is also created, giving the building a lively external appearance.

I think the entire timber construction world is looking at the timber multi-storey car park because it is unique in this dimension and application. The successful realisation of our first timber multi-storey car park fills us with particular pride.

The house of associations:
Customs & innovative timber construction
With the "House of Associations" project, the municipality of Neumarkt am Wallersee, as the client, has successfully combined living traditions with innovative timber construction. The new building, designed by the architectural firm dunkelschwarz ZT GmbH and implemented by the general contractor WIEHAG Bau GmbH, interprets traditional association values in a contemporary way, thus setting a pioneering architectural example. The building's clear, polygonal design language, featuring a hybrid construction method, combines the latest technical standards with the use of regional materials. This creates a spacious, flexibly usable space that offers a permanent and dignified home to the region's vibrant traditions. The jury particularly emphasized the project's design sophistication and high functional quality. These are evident in the precise craftsmanship, the consistently sustainable choice of materials, and the innovative combination of ecological building standards with modern architecture – an overall concept that deserves the award in every respect.
