SUSTAINABLE CONSTRUCTION
RETHINKING BUILDING MATERIALS

Sustainable construction requires us to fundamentally rethink the materials we build with. WIEHAG is driving this change with high-performance timber and timber-hybrid solutions that replace CO2-intensive building materials and turn buildings into long-term carbon stores. In this way, we combine effective climate protection with economically viable buildings that retain their value over time.

COST-EFFICIENT AND VALUE-DRIVEN

THE FUTURE IS TIMBER
TIMBER CONSTRUCTION AND CLIMATE PROTECTION

From the simplest timber structures to viable solutions for addressing climate change, timber is one of our oldest building materials – and one of the best suited to future construction. At WIEHAG, we have understood its intelligence as a building material for six generations.

Today, our international landmark projects place the highest demands on Engineering, Production and Project Management. They demonstrate how architectural excellence and sustainable production can come together in modern timber construction. With our Timber Intelligence, we are driving the transition towards a more sustainable built environment.

TIMBER STATEMENT

The value WIEHAG creates for society goes far beyond revenue. We create attractive places for people to live, actively protect the climate and accelerate the transformation of the built environment into a second urban forest

TIMBER IMPACT
LANDMARKS IN TIMBER CONSTRUCTION

Around one third of annual global greenhouse gas emissions come from the construction and operation of buildings – the places where we live, work and spend our leisure time. If we are to effectively address climate change and achieve greater sustainability in construction, we need to fundamentally rethink the materials we build with.

WIEHAG has shown the world that urban, multi-storey buildings can be built just as viably and economically using timber-hybrid construction as with conventional building materials.

More timber, less CO2: With our landmark projects, we are pushing the boundaries of what is possible and actively driving the material transition. Technically, it can be done. Now we need to fully harness the potential of sustainable timber construction and make our cities more liveable and future-ready, step by step.

TIMBER INTELLIGENCE

We are taking timber construction into new dimensions – in architecture, technology and climate-conscious design.

TIMBER IN THE BUILT ENVIRONMENT

URBAN FOREST
TIMBER AS CARBON STORAGE IN BUILDINGS

When we build with timber, we transfer the CO2 captured in forests into our built environment. This creates a “second forest” in our cities. Timber buildings act as carbon stores: the CO2 stored in the timber remains locked away for the lifetime of the building, keeping it out of the atmosphere.
