At WIEHAG, we see timber construction as a key driver for a sustainable future. We combine six generations of experience in engineered timber construction with innovation and consistent sustainability management to drive the transition towards a more sustainable built environment. In doing so, we are taking timber construction into new dimensions.

TRANSFORMING THE BUILT ENVIRONMENT
Many sustainable technologies make an important contribution to mitigating climate change. Intelligent building with timber, however, goes one step further. As an established economic activity, sustainable timber construction offers a particularly cost-effective way to address climate change while creating lasting value.
Building sustainably with timber allows us to actively use built-up land to support climate protection, reduce CO2 in the atmosphere and at the same time create high-quality living environments. Timber buildings provide a natural environment for people while also acting as long-term carbon stores.
Using timber from sustainably managed forests, we can go beyond carbon-neutral construction to achieve carbon-negative construction: we permanently remove more CO2 from the atmosphere than we return to it.
Climate change is not an abstract issue for me. The way we build is a central part of the problem, but also part of the solution. This is where timber construction offers a unique opportunity: while many industries are working hard to reduce their environmental footprint, renewable raw materials allow us to go one step further and lock away CO2 from the atmosphere for the long term. We want to actively drive this transformation – not wait for it.

REDUCING EMISSIONS
The greatest potential for further CO2 reductions lies within our upstream and downstream value chain (Scope 3), which, according to our 2025/26 greenhouse gas inventory, accounts for more than 95% of our total emissions. The purchase of materials and raw materials is responsible for around two-thirds of these emissions and will therefore be a key focus of our future reduction strategy.
Over the coming years, we will make significant investments to further expand production, improve efficiency and increase our own renewable energy generation. As our capacity grows, we aim to further drive the sustainable transformation of the built environment while strengthening WIEHAG’s competitiveness, long-term resilience and sustainable development.
Sustainability is a core element of our corporate strategy and is embedded at the highest level of management. Through our integrated sustainability management system, we regularly collect robust performance data and publish the results in our annual Sustainability Report.

KNOWLEDGE AND CONNECTION
For us, sustainability means acting responsibly towards the people and communities around us. At the WIEHAG Campus in Altheim, we put this into practice through our approach to sustainable manufacturing. We also explore the transformative potential of timber from a broader perspective.
At the WIEHAG Campus, we offer a range of programs that bring our people and wider community together. The Timber Space was created to encourage exchange, connection and the sharing of knowledge. It hosts external presentations with experts from research and practice, while Open Friday provides a forum for internal communication. The Generations Gala brings together apprenticeship graduates, long-serving employees and colleagues approaching retirement. Through Timber Talks, we bring leading external perspectives and ideas directly into WIEHAG.
