Brainergy Park
Jülich (DE)

Brainergy Park Jülich is an innovation campus dedicated to the future of energy and climate technologies. The Mobility Hub, a hybrid timber car park with more than 200 parking spaces, is a natural extension of this vision.

WIEHAG brings its Timber Intelligence to every stage of the project—from structural design and detailed planning through to fabrication and installation. The result is a climate-friendly mobility hub that supports the researchers, businesses and start-ups developing tomorrow's sustainable energy solutions at Jülich.

TIMBER INTELLIGENCE

HIGH DEMANDS
DEPENDABLE ENGINEERING

The Mobility Hub comprises four parking levels with approximately 6,400 m² of gross floor area. The load-bearing structure consists of glulam columns and beams, braced with glulam members. To suit the open architectural design, the timber structure is protected externally with a cladding system of 3-layer larch panels.

The floor slabs and entry and exit ramps are constructed from cross-laminated timber (CLT). A permanently bonded 80 mm cast-in-place concrete topping provides long-term waterproofing. The roof, constructed from glulam and trapezoidal steel sheeting, also forms part of WIEHAG's project scope.

One of the project's key engineering challenges was its location within Germany's Seismic Zone 3—the country's highest seismic hazard classification. The demanding structural and engineering requirements associated with this location had to be considered from the earliest stages of the design process.

TIMBER IMPACT

INFRASTRUCTURE FOR THE FUTURE
CLIMATE-FRIENDLY TIMBER CONSTRUCTION

Brainergy Park is driving the transition to a climate-friendly economy and sustainable energy systems. As a centre for innovation, research and technology transfer, it provides the foundation for developing new solutions in energy, mobility and resource efficiency.

The Mobility Hub is part of this vision. Its hybrid timber construction demonstrates how renewable building materials can be used to create smart, sustainable mobility infrastructure. The timber structure reduces the use of emissions-intensive materials while storing CO2 over the long term. A photovoltaic system and green roof complete the building's forward-thinking sustainability concept, creating a mobility hub that not only meets functional requirements but also actively contributes to the transformation of the built environment.

TIMBER HIGHLIGHT

INFRASTRUCTURE FOR THE FUTURE
CLIMATE-FRIENDLY TIMBER CONSTRUCTION
