TIMBER GEN 1 – 1849 TO 1889

JOSEF WIESNER
THE CARPENTRY WORKSHOP IS ESTABLISHED

WIEHAG’s long success story begins in the mid-19th century. In May 1849, Master carpenter Josef Wiesner registered his carpentry workshop in the Carpenters’ Guild Register in Altheim, Upper Austria.

By 1851, Josef already had 10 apprentices working with him. This marked the beginning of WIEHAG’s long tradition of training its own skilled workers. In this founding generation, timber was sourced directly from the forest and delivered to the construction site, where it was hewn by hand.

From these modest beginnings as a traditional carpentry business, WIEHAG gradually developed into an international timber construction company, today led by Erich Wiesner, the fifth generation of the family. With Valentin Wiesner, the sixth generation is already actively involved in the company’s continued development.
